I don't know about you, but all too often I find myself in a musical rut.

I get cravings for a certain kind of music, I listen to that song nonstop for weeks or even months, I realize I can't take that song anymore, and I end up listlessly flipping through Spotify playlists and my friends' music selections to chase some time. unbearable before hitting my next lyrical obsession.

Let me digress for a moment...

When I first tried Tinder, all I wrote on my profile was, "I'm fed up with my current music. What do you have for me?" This worked wonders for the dual purpose of increasing matches and creating a new playlist (which I'm fed up with by now).

You are welcome.

Anyway, since a good group of people I know now use Amazon's Alexa-enabled Echo or Echo Dotorganize your home, your life, your shopping and entertainment options, I thought it might be worth taking a look at what Alexa can do for me and my musical boredom.

Because I'm so chic

As it turns out, there are a myriad of options out there!

If you're not familiar with Alexa yet,Here is Amazon's statementhow "she" works:

“Alexa lets you ask questions and requests using just your voice. For example, you can ask Alexa a question like 'What's the weather like in New York today?' , a recording of what you asked Alexa is sent to Amazon's cloud so that we can process and respond to your request.

“You access Alexa differently depending on the type of device you use. With "hands-free" devices like the Amazon Echo, you access Alexa by saying the wake word (Alexa, Echo, Amazon or computer). For other devices, like some Fire tablets, access Alexa with the push of a button."

The help categories that Alexa provides include:

  • music and entertainment
  • calls and messages
  • news and information
  • questions and answers
  • help at home
  • Smart House
  • fun and games
  • Shopping
  • Alexa Skills

Returning to the playlist dilemma, I fished a little...

According to Amazon (again), you can "add music to your playlists anytime from the Amazon Music app".

That sounds easy, and not only that, but it turns out that picking a playlist someone else has already made via Alexa is even easier than I thought!

All you have to do is say "Alexa!" and then "Play [any playlist you want] playlist." And voila! Music!

From there you can do all sorts of things from shuffling a list to repeating a song and trumpets please! Ask Alexa to start a song you're tired of!

Here are some of the best Alexa commands:
